Got Mental Toughness?
Want to take your game to the next level? Wait no further...
Dr. Zaher will help you gain the mental edge that will allow you to compete at your peak potential. One of the main differences between amateur and professional athletes is having the ability to perform at the highest level on a consistent basis. The key factor here is consistency, which is only achieved through mastering mental skills (attaining exceptionally high levels of confidence, intrinsic motivation, concentration/focus, persistence, and commitment, to just name a few). Only once you have managed to take complete control of your mind, will you be able to eliminate the mental roadblocks that prevent you from becoming the best that you can be.
Here's what some of the best athletes/coaches have to say about the mental aspect of the game...
"concentration is the ability to think about absolutely nothin' when it is absolutely necessary." Ray Knight
Confidence is a lot of this game or any game. If you don't think you can, you won't." Jerry West
"It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get back up." Vince Lombardi
"There are only two options regarding commitment; you're either in or you're out. There's no such thing as life in-between." Pat Riley
Do you ever feel that you are overly anxious at the beginning of your competition?
Do you struggle with coming out on top during competition’s decisive moments?
Do you struggle to maintain a high level of excitement during practice or competition?
Do you think of yourself as a slow starter during practice or competition?
Do you blow away comfortable leads more often than normal?
Do you struggle with making good comebacks whenever you fall behind in score?
Do you feel like you’re not exactly sure what you’re working hard for?
Do you feel like your performance during competition is not as good as during practice?
Do thoughts such as “I can’t” “choke” “I suck” “who cares” or “I hate this” go through your mind as you perform?
If you have answered yes to any or all of the questions above, you may want to consider the benefits of enhancing your mental toughness that will significantly improve your game.
Myths About Sport Psychology (SP)
SP is for "problem" athletes only.
SP is for elite training only.
SP skills are inborn.
The truth is, SP skills can be learned but they must be practiced over time, and integrated into an athlete's daily training regimen.
Feel like testing your ability to focus?
Below is what is known as the "grid exercise"; an Eastern European activity that teaches you how to focus your attention while scanning the environment for relevant cues, simultaneously. As you can probably tell, this exercise can improve your focus skills in fast moving sports such as tennis, basketball, football, and soccer. Allow us the opportunity to help you in acquiring the skills necessary to master this level of focus.
