Dr. Sherif Zaher (Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Program Director)

My credentials include a doctorate in Clinical Psychology, a masters in Kinesiology

(sports performance) and a bachelor's in Psychology. I'm a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of CA., and practice out of two convenient locations in the Sacramento region. I also offer telehealth services to clients who are unable to attend in-person sessions.

My clinical background includes but is not limited to the following positions: junior specialist with UC Davis Children's Hospital, mental health rehabilitation specialist at a crisis residential center, and a psychological assistant at an outpatient mental health clinic. I consider my involvement in a patient's recovery process a great honor, and focus on adopting an eclectic approach that would provide each patient with the necessary treatment that would help in overcoming the presenting symptoms experienced. I have a special interest in assisting patients struggling with trauma-related symptoms, for example: children exposed to traumatic grief (due to the loss of a loved one) complex trauma (exposure to multiple traumatic events), and adults diagnosed with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I also specialize in working with various mood disorders.

In the realm of sport psychology, I have shared my expertise with numerous top athletes ages 9+. Some of the notable organizations/programs that have I have consulted with include: Egyptian Tennis Federation, Sacramento Republic F.C., CSUS athletics, UC Santa Cruz, the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), as well as several elite high schools. In addition, I have been providing my services to world class athletes including soccer world cup and tennis grand slam participants. My services have been utilized by the Sacramento Republic Football Club from (2014-2020), and most recently the Egyptian Davis Cup team (helping them secure a win to advance to Group 2). In a classroom setting, I taught sport psychology to college students at Folsom Lake College. In effort to share my knowledge on how to maximize one's potential, I created an extensive performance enhancement program called "Mind Power & Control", offering numerous evidence based coping techniques that are based on many notable articles and research studies.

As an undergraduate I was named CSUS Scholar-Athlete of the year, and was selected into the Psi-Chi honor society in psychology. My major athletic accomplishments include: inducted in the Buffalo Tennis Hall of Fame, ranked top 50 ITF (junior world ranking), Wimbledon championships participant, NCAA championship title (University of Georgia), 2-time Big Sky Conference player of the year, #1 national ranking in the over 30's division (USTA doubles ranking), and 6 years as head coach of two Division 1 tennis programs. The approach I take in working with my athletes centers around identifying and committing to act on positive values. I focus on regulating emotions through improving cognitive functioning and enhancing mindfulness skills. Moreover, I assist athletes in identifying core maladaptive beliefs responsible for perpetual negative patterns of behavior. My athletes maximize their potential by developing coping techniques that enable them to make positive changes in their performance. If you struggle with any symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, or sub-par athletic performance, and would like to inquire about my services, please feel free to contact me using the information at the bottom of this page.
